What is Pilates?

All of us have patterns of movement-ways we have moved for years. Sometimes these patterns are good for the long-term health of our joints, and sometimes they're not, in fact it is our patterns, more than actual aging, that leads to joint degeneration and pain. Even when we exercise, we move in these habitual ways, often times grinding down our joints just as we think we're helping them. With supervision, we can change these patterns. And that where Pilates comes in, particularly private instruction. Pilates, at least the way I teach it, is all about changing these patterns of movement. When you work with me in a one-on-one setting, this is exactly what I do with you. I change your patterns of movement. I work with you to move more efficiently, with more precision.
